Carpet at the seaside works in salt, all year. At InterContinental Qinhuangdao, the real counterpart of 288 full-sea-view rooms is not the interior. It is the Beidaihe wind. ADA FLOOR designed and produced the carpet for the guestrooms and public areas, delivered for the 2024 opening.
Fix the bottom before the pattern
In humidity and salinity the first decision sits under the yarn: moisture-managed backing signs off before the high-durability wool-nylon blend even gets considered. Coastal materials are costed over a decade. Salt spray does not pick faults, it waits for them, and a pattern over a failed backing is only storage on loan.

Restraint in front of 288 windows
In 288 full-sea-view rooms the visual lead is always outside the glass. Guestroom carpets therefore hold to low saturation: ocean blue, sea-mist grey and linen, keeping the focal point where it belongs. The floor works for the view, never against it. Its brief is barefoot tactility and a quiet room.

Between rippled walls and warm timber
The interior takes its cues from the coast: rippled sculptural walls, warm timber, linen textures. The carpet is the second half of that sentence spoken on the floor, tones answering the walls, surface answering bare feet, acoustics settling the resort's need for quiet. From lobby to room, the immersion keeps no seams.

Opened 2024; the long run starts now
Coastal wear is written in the calendar: peak-season crowds, year-round damp, endless barefoot round trips. This system was specified for exactly that weather from day one. The floor chapter of the rippled-wall, warm-timber narrative has only just opened.

At the seaside, damp comes first
Two hundred and eighty-eight sea-facing rooms look out over the Bohai Bay, where the air carries salt and indoor humidity swings with the season. Here the floor is chosen as a system rather than a colour: a backing that breathes without holding water, an underlay that stays stable on a slab with elevated moisture, and adhesive cure time allowed for the humidity on site. Testing slab moisture room by room before laying is the step this climate will not forgive skipping.

How a low-saturation palette gets approved
Sea blue, sea-mist grey and linen each have to pass two lights: the cold bounce off the water at noon and the warmer interior light at dusk. One-to-one samples were carried into a room of the same orientation and read twice, morning and evening, while checking whether daylight washes the pattern out. Yarn came from a single dye lot so that no two rooms can read as two different blues.

Opened in 2024, with the long road ahead
In a newly opened resort the first year's problems come from grit and cleaning frequency. Wind-borne sand is an abrasive against pile, so public areas run a shorter deep-clean cycle and higher vacuum frequency. The delivery file keeps each roll's pattern position and dye lot, so a local replacement three years on can be matched instead of re-doing a whole floor.
