On floors 95–108 of the Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre, the finest compliment a carpet can receive is going unnoticed. ADA FLOOR developed, sampled and produced the carpet for 251 rooms, suites and corridors end to end; since the 2019 opening the colour, underfoot feel and acoustic performance have held.

The brief from the upper floors

Rosewood's guestrooms house artworks and premium furniture. KPF signed the tower, Yabu Pushelberg and Super Potato ran the interiors, and across 251 rooms and suites the carpet was asked to do one thing: be the warm ground, never the foreground. Present enough to contribute warmth, restrained enough never to compete. That single line set every material decision that followed.

Three colours, one palette card

Brass screens, imperial blue details and the rose tone were native to the same interior palette. Artwork went to production at 1:1; yarn colour cards were signed off in daylight and warm lamp versions. The view from the window seat and the view from the entrance are two different compositions, and the pattern's direction was only fixed after a mock-up room trial.

Two fibres, two reflections

Guestroom carpet is New Zealand wool with a measured touch of silk, pile weight specified in the 1,300–1,800 g/m² band, pile height and density tuned to the room's underfoot target. The two fibres catch light differently, which is how the colour gained its depth, not printed on, but woven in, with one version of the palette by daylight and another once the lamps take over.

One floorplan, three constructions

The guestroom wing runs on 4-metre Axminster broadloom, fewer seams and less colour-shift risk; irregular suites switch to hand-tufting made sheet by sheet; geometric pattern runners lead guests from the lift lobby into the rooms at an unhurried pace. Three constructions on one floor, scheduled backwards from the handover sequence.

Quiet and safety, each with a standard

Guestrooms were designed for mid-frequency reverberation of 0.4–0.6 seconds; the carpet-plus-underlay system is assessed to ISO 10140 and ASTM E492, with impact-sound improvement commonly in the 24–33 dB band, and the mock-up room had to measure through before bulk production. Corridors are specified to ASTM E648 Class I (critical radiant flux at or above 0.45 W/cm²) alongside GB 8624 Class B1; in the dry sky-high environment, static is held within 2 kV to CRI HT-101 practice; emissions follow FloorScore and GB 18587 limits.

Three rounds of samples, one dye-lot rule

From A4 sample to 1:1 mock-up took three colour revisions, with shade locked to a single dye lot and yarn pre-blended before the loom. In-line checks watched pile height, density and pattern registration; every roll left the factory verified for direction and width. None of this shows up in guest reviews, but it is all named on the inspection sheets.

The floor six years on

Since opening in 2019, guestroom carpets have held their colour and touch under high-frequency use, with acoustic performance still inside the design band. A cleaning manual was handed to the hotel at delivery: daily vacuum routes, quarterly deep cleans, stain protocols by material. Each finish in the room, brass, stone, timber and wool, has stayed inside its own role.
