Key points

A bespoke carpet runs through design development, material specification, sampling, factory production, inspection and delivery-and-installation coordination. How deep each stage goes decides the distance between drawing and finished floor.

  1. Design development translates the rendering into a weavable artwork, yarn colour cards and a craft list.
  2. Sampling confirms colour, pile height and handle under real lighting and viewing distance.
  3. Production is organised by loom width and cutting plan — waste and seam positions are decided before installation.

The first half of development is design

An artwork is not a rendering: line curves must fit the loom's or tufting gun's minimum unit, screen colours must convert to physical yarn cards, and pile-height layers and craft boundaries must be resolved at the pattern stage — otherwise the rendering stays beautiful but unweavable.

The sample is the contract

A sampling round fixes more than looks: pile composition, density and the backing system lock together with the physical sample, and acceptance follows it. Most disputes trace back to skipped samples or approvals made under lighting that is not the site's.

Production and installation

Loom width drives the cutting plan, and the cutting plan drives the seams: large-area joints hide within furniture lines or door thresholds, and pile direction runs with the main circulation. After factory inspection, rolls pack in installation order while the fitting team coordinates curves and threshold transitions, so the drawing lands on the floor at full scale.
